Biodegredation

For pesticides which enter soil, a key process is the pesticide's degradation. Pesticides are degraded by sunlight, microorganisms in the soil, and chemical and physical processes. Breakdown is faster at warmer temperatures. The longer the compound persists before its degradation, the longer it is subject to the forces of leaching.
