In addition to pesticides, it has long been understood that bacteria, nitrates, and common minerals such as calcium and magnesium can contaminate groundwater. The presence of these and other contaminants in groundwater may present a risk to public health. The impact of pesticide contaminated groundwater on human health is still being assessed.
