Dear Ms. Nicholas:
Re: Registration of Special Local Need Labeling for DryTec Calcium Hypochlorite Granular (EPA Reg. No. 1258-427)
Assigned SLN No. NY-040003
The Department has reviewed your application, received May 12, 2004, to register Special Local Need
(SLN) labeling for DryTec Calcium Hypochlorite Granular (EPA Reg. No. 1258-427) in New York State.
DryTec Calcium Hypochlorite Granular (EPA Reg. No. 1258-427) contains 68% calcium hypochlorite and
provides 65% minimum available chlorine.
The Department had received numerous requests from the New York State Power Authority for help and
guidance for the control of macrofoulants, especially Zebra mussels, in their industrial water systems. It became
apparent that the use of sodium and calcium hypochlorite products was the generally accepted industry practice.
However, there are no granular calcium hypochlorite products properly labeled for use in industrial water systems for
the control of macrofoulants.
Through the cooperation of Arch Chemical, the New York State Power Authority, Robert Brennis of the
USEPA and this Department, labeling for this use was agreed upon.
It is the Department's understanding that Arch Chemical is working towards adding this use to their
Federal Section 3 label for this product.
Therefore, under the authority of Section 24(c) of FIFRA, the Department hereby
grants a Special Local Need registration for DryTec Calcium Hypochlorite Granular (EPA Reg. No. 1258-427).
The product is assigned the registration number SLN No. NY-040003.
The Certificate of Pesticide Registration and a copy of the New York State stamped "ACCEPTED" SLN
labeling for DryTec Calcium Hypochlorite Granular are enclosed for your records.
Please be reminded that a copy of the accepted SLN label must be distributed with all product
distributed in New York State and be in the possession of the user at the time of pesticide application.
Please contact Ms. Jeanine Broughel, of my staff, at (518) 402-8768, if you have any questions.
