Your Reduced Risk Rationale for Almonds, Cucurbits, And Rice dated June 26, 1997

Dear Mrs. Schulz:

The Reduced Risk Pesticide Committee of the Office of Pesticide Programs met on August 13, 1997 to consider the information on the claimed reduced risk of Azoxystrobin use on Almonds, Cucurbits, and Rice you provided to the Agency in a Reduced Risk Rationale document dated June 26, 1997. Represen-tatives of Biological and Economic Analysis Division, Environ-mental Fate and Effects Division, Health Effects Division, Biopesticides and Pollution Prevention Division, and Registration Division were present at this meeting.

We are pleased to inform you that the committee concluded that Azoxystrobin is, indeed, categorized as a reduced risk pesticide for use on all three of the crops/crop groups for which this designation was sought: Almonds, Cucurbits, and Rice. The only expression of concern came from EFED, which indicated that it would like to know more about the toxicology of the degradates of Azoxystrobin.

The practical effect of this Reduced Risk determination is that the petition (number 7F4864) that contains these uses becomes one of our highest-priority review actions.

We will keep you informed as our review of this chemical proceeds. If you have any questions about this letter, please contact John Bazuin at (703)305-7381.

Sincerely yours,

Cynthia L. Gilcs Parker
