Dear Ms. White:

Re: FRONTIER Herbicide - EPA Res. No. 55947-140 (Sandoz), FRONTIER 6.0 Herbicide - EPA Reg.
No. 7969-147 (BASF) and FRONTIER 6.0 Herbicide - EPA Res. No. 55947-159 (Sandoz) - Label
Revisions

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has accepted the revised
supplemental labeling, submitted May 30, 1997, for the referenced products. The revisions
add the use "For weed control in sweet corn grain sorghum, dry bean and peanut" to the
existing label registered in New York State on May 15, 1997.

In the original registration decision, the Department determined that approval of use
of FRONTIER on Long Island would not be granted due to remaining concerns about the
potential for leaching of FRONTIER in areas of very high vulnerability such as Long
Island, NY, and the absence of prospective groundwater monitoring data under Long Island
sandy soil conditions.

The original approval of FRONTIER was for the label containing crops not grown on
Long Island; i.e. field corn, seed corn, popcorn and soybeans. A supplemental label
listing use, on sweet corn, grain sorghum and dry beans was not approved at that time
because sweet corn is grown on Long Island. At BASF's suggestion, the Department agreed
to approve this supplemental label if a statement excluding use on Long Island was placed
on the label. That has now been accomplished.

All the conditions specified in the original approval letter- of May 15, 1997 apply to
this supplemental label.

Enclosed, are stamped 'accepted' copies of the supplemental labels.

If you have further questions, please contact Frank Hegener, of my office, at (518)457-7446.

Sincerely,

Maureen P. Serafini
