Re: FIFRA 2(ee) Recommendation - Use of Orthene Tree, Turf and Ornamental
Spray (EPA Reg. No. 59639-26) and Orthene Tree, Turf and Ornamental WSP
(EPA Reg. No. 59639-88) to Control Arborvitae Leafminer on Arborvitae
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has approved your
request for a FIFRA 2(ee) recommendation for use of Orthene Tree, Turf and
Ornamental Spray (EPA Reg. No. 59639-26) and Orthene Tree, Turf and Ornamental
WSP (EPA Reg. No. 59639-88) to control Aborvitae Leafminer, a pest not cited
on the label, on Arborvitae. Enclosed is a copy of the accepted
recommendation.
Anyone using Orthene Tree, Turf and Ornamental Insecticide under this
recommendation must have the written recommendation in their possession at the
time of application.

Management options: Many effective larval and pupal parasites. Foliar
sprays to control larvae: Acephate
When to treat: Acephate foliar spray for larvae: late April - mid
May, 100-150 GDD; again mid-August, 1800-2200 GDD
IPM considerations: Parasites usually not abundant in specimen trees.
Two pesticide treatments may be required for first
year of treatment. If infestation is light, prune
out infested tips.
