Dear Mr. Smith:
Re: FIFRA 2 (ee) Recommendation For Use of Carbaryl on
Grapes to Control a Pest not on the Label
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has approved
your 2(ee) request for the use of carbaryl contained in the pesticide products
Sevin 50W (EPA Reg. No. 264-314) and Sevin 80W (EPA Reg. No. 264-316) on

not on the label for grapes. The recommended use rate is 1-4 lb/acre for
Sevin 50W or 0.75-2.5 lb/acre for Sevin 80W to give an application rate of 0.5

bug, Tydia scrupea.
Researcher and Title:

Range from 0.5 to 2.0 lb a.i./acre
Nature of 2(ee) Variation from Product Label:
Extend the use of carbaryl to the banded grape bug, Tydia scrupea . This
insect is currently not included on label. We want permission to recommend the
use of sevin for its control in the Pest Management Recommendations for
Grapes.
Complete Recommendation as it will Appear in the Cornell Recommends:
Banded Grape Sevin 50% WP 1-4 lb
Bug OR Sevin 80S 0.75-2.5 lb
Note: In late May (15 to 22 May), scout vineyards for BGB, paying particular
attention to border areas in GBM-RA high-risk blocks. Infestation levels
greater than 1 nymph per ten shoots can cause crop loss. Carbaryl applied
before the second week in June will prevent economic injury. Infestations do
not occur in most vineyards, and are often concentrated in vineyard edges,
therefore it may not be necessary to treat the entire vineyard.
