Re: FIFRA 2(ee) Recommendation for the use of Merit 2F Insecticide (EPA Reg. No. 432-1312) to Add a Pest Not on The
Label - Asian Long-horned Beetle
The Department of Environmental Conservation (The Department) has approved your FIFRA 2(ee) request to
add control of the target pest Asian Long-horned Beetle (Anaplophora glabripennis) for the above listed product on
trees, using the application technique of soil injection. The registered New York State label for Merit 2F does not
include Asian Long-horned Beetle. This FIFRA 2(ee) request was originally approved for Merit 75WP (3125-421) and Merit
75 WSP (3125-439) on November 5, 1999.
The Asian Long-horned Beetle (a non-native pest) bores into and kills a variety of tree species including
species of maple, elm, chestnut, birch, poplar, and willow. Anyone treating trees for control of Asian Long-horned
Beetle with Merit 217, under this recommendation, must have the recommendation in their possession at the time of
application. Conditions of this FIFRA 2(ee) include; the recommendation is only for use under the direction of the
USDA, the application method is soil injection, and no soil injection applications are allowed in Nassau and Suffolk
Counties of New York.
Enclosed is the stamped "accepted" copy of the recommendation as it is to appear in the Cornell
Recommends. Also enclosed are stamped "accepted" copies of the revised 2(ee) recommendations for Merit 75WP and
Merit 75WSP (revised to include the Nassau & Suffolk Counties exclusion). If you have any questions regarding this
letter please contact Robin Hackett, of my staff, at (518) 402-8768.
Sincerely,
